Hereās how to beat the heat
Hi viatgers,
In case you havenāt heard it on the news a million times already ā Spain is in the middle of a heat wave.
So if youāre here on vacation⦠well, good luck.
But not everyone knows how to deal with a Mediterranean heat wave. Because let me tell you, they are no joke.
So hereās what you should do to manage it safely.
How to Beat The Valencian Heat
āļø Stay out of the sun from 2PM to 6PM
I know, itās a big chunk of your vacation days. But itās also the hottest part of the day.
So use this time to enjoy your lunch, take a quick becaeta (nap), and do some exploring in a museum if youāre up and about.
But this is NOT the time to go to the beach.
At a minimum, youāll get burnt.
And worst case scenario, youāll get an exclusive look into the Valencian healthcare system.
š Hat, Sunscreen, and a Ventall
When youāre walking around, protection from the sun is a MUST.
So wear a nice, shady hat.
Put on sunscreen (you can buy more at the pharmacy).
And donāt forget to use your ventall (handheld fan).
š Hydrate
And no, Aigua de ValĆØncia doesnāt count!
Donāt forget to drink lots of water while youāre walking around.
The city actually has plenty of water fountains that are free! So you can refill your water bottles pretty easily. Most of the major city squares will have some.
š· Enjoy a Vi i LlimonĆ
THIS is the drink Valencians have all summer.
Itās the house red wine + club soda.
Itās cold, refreshing, and everything you need to feel like youāre on vacation.
Especially if you go out for an esmorzaret, this is the drink you should order.
(pronounced vee + ee + yee-mo-nah)
I guarantee you itās what me, my husband, and his whole family have been drinking on vacation so far!
š¼ļø Check Out Some Museums
A lot of the museums are still open in the summer, so I recommend squeezing these into your itinerary.
I highly recommend the Falles Museum. Itās underrated, but I think itās the most important one in the city.
Bona sort! š
Heatwaves suck.
And our environmental impact makes them worse.
So remember to make sustainable choices while youāre here.
Bon viatge,
Kevin
