🔥 Heat wave is here
Here’s how to beat the heat
Hi viatgers,
In case you haven’t heard it on the news a million times already — Spain is in the middle of a heat wave.
So if you’re here on vacation… well, good luck.
But not everyone knows how to deal with a Mediterranean heat wave. Because let me tell you, they are no joke.
So here’s what you should do to manage it safely.
How to Beat The Valencian Heat
☀️ Stay out of the sun from 2PM to 6PM
I know, it’s a big chunk of your vacation days. But it’s also the hottest part of the day.
So use this time to enjoy your lunch, take a quick becaeta (nap), and do some exploring in a museum if you’re up and about.
But this is NOT the time to go to the beach.
At a minimum, you’ll get burnt.
And worst case scenario, you’ll get an exclusive look into the Valencian healthcare system.
👒 Hat, Sunscreen, and a Ventall
When you’re walking around, protection from the sun is a MUST.
So wear a nice, shady hat.
Put on sunscreen (you can buy more at the pharmacy).
And don’t forget to use your ventall (handheld fan).
🍉 Hydrate
And no, Aigua de València doesn’t count!
Don’t forget to drink lots of water while you’re walking around.
The city actually has plenty of water fountains that are free! So you can refill your water bottles pretty easily. Most of the major city squares will have some.
🍷 Enjoy a Vi i Llimonà
THIS is the drink Valencians have all summer.
It’s the house red wine + club soda.
It’s cold, refreshing, and everything you need to feel like you’re on vacation.
Especially if you go out for an esmorzaret, this is the drink you should order.
(pronounced vee + ee + yee-mo-nah)
I guarantee you it’s what me, my husband, and his whole family have been drinking on vacation so far!
🖼️ Check Out Some Museums
A lot of the museums are still open in the summer, so I recommend squeezing these into your itinerary.
I highly recommend the Falles Museum. It’s underrated, but I think it’s the most important one in the city.
Bona sort! 🍀
Heatwaves suck.
And our environmental impact makes them worse.
So remember to make sustainable choices while you’re here.
Bon viatge,
Kevin
