The #1 Tip for Les Falles

Here's how you can avoid the tourist traps

Hi friends,

Here’s a pro tip from anyone visiting Valencia soon.

➡️ Order your sweet treats in Valencian, not Spanish.

Because during Les Falles — we get a loooooot of people that come to the city just to take advantage of tourists.

But the easiest way to spot a tourist trap is by speaking to them in Valencian.

That’s because the people from Valencia, making Valencian recipes — know how to speak the language! But people running the tourist traps don’t.

So I wanted to make a quick guide to help you order your bunyols and xurros this year.

Example Expressions

Valencian

English

Bon dia

Hello

Em poses mitja dotzena de bunyols?

Could I have a half-dozen bunyols?

Amb una tassa de xocolate

With a cup of (hot) chocolate

Teniu figues albardaes?

Do you have stuffed figs?

Amb targeta, per favor

I’ll pay by card, please.

Moltes gràcies

Thank you very much

Adeu

Goodbye

That should be everything you need to successfully navigate a full bunyol-related conversation in Valencian!

Feel free to customize it (like replace mitja dotzena with however many you want).

⭐️ Also — if a stall DOES sell figues albardaes, then they are 100% legit. It’s a hidden gem that I highly recommend!

And if you have any questions — just send me a message! Always happy to help.

Bones festes,

Kevin
