When to plan your trip

📅 Here’s how early to book everything

Hi there,

If you’re planning a trip to Spain this year — you might want to start thinking about when the right time is to book things.

Because when it comes to your holiday budget, timing is everything.

So here’s the magic number I usually follow:

6 months ahead of time.

✔️ Flights are usually cheapest around this time
✔️ Most hotels will still have their best rooms available
✔️ You have plenty of time to get tickets to activities & plan your itinerary

(PS: that last one is actually super relevant. If you’re also going to a city like Granada, tickets to the Alhambra will sell out FAST)

Especially if you’re looking at a transatlantic flight: waiting too long can really put a dent in your wallet.

And luckily, the 6-month mark is usually around when most people need to request time off from work.

Which brings me to another top tip:

If your job is flexible, I highly suggest planning your trip around the best flight dates — rather than booking flights based off your time off.

Sometimes you’ll see your flight go up by $100+ because you fly back on a Sunday instead of a Monday.

So start thinking about planning your trips this year — and booking ahead of time.

I tend to use Skyscanner and Booking for all of my international holidays. For me, those are usually the best in terms of balancing price, convenience, and trustworthiness (the last one being a big one…)

You can check those guides to see my opinion on them.
