What are all those red flags? 🚩
It's not as bad as you think
Hi viatgers,
If you’re in València in May, you might notice something.
The city center is FULL of red flags.
✔️ Banners hung through the streets
✔️ Balconies with tapestries on them
✔️ The basilica ALWAYS has something going on.
But luckily, these aren’t the red flags you need to worry about.
Because in the entire month of May, the city is celebrating its patron saint:
Our Lady of the Forsaken
La Mare de Déu dels Desemparats in Valencian.
Which is a great opportunity to see a lot of traditional dances, cultural activities, and other lively events.
Like this past Saturday, when a Muixeranga was performed inside the basilica (for the first time in history!)

So while you might not get to see any more unprecedented events this month —
… well, actually, maybe we’ve already gotten enough unprecedented events lately…
Anyway, May is a great time to see some cultural activities! Head over to the Plaça de la Mare de Déu behind the Cathedral because that’s where you’ll see most of the dances.
And enjoy the streets with all of the May decorations!
