🌷 What to do in April

The best springtime activities in Valencia

Hi travelers,

Anybody visiting Valencia in April is in for a treat!

Mostly because we already got all the rain in March. So likely — you’ll be in for a sunny trip this year.

April is one of my favorite months in the city. So here are some suggestions for things to do this month.

La Setmana Santa Marinera

The biggest event of April is going to be the Easter celebrations. With parades and events every day from April 13th to the 20th — you’ll get to see a very traditional Valencian Easter.

Or more specifically — a coastal Valencian Easter. Because almost all the major events take place in El Cabanyal (the beach neighborhood).

So if you want to check them out, I have two tips:

  1. Remember this is a solemn holiday. It’s gorgeous, but don’t expect a party.

  2. Americans — don’t be scared by the hats. (if you know, you know)

Bike Rides

April is probably my favorite month to hop on a bike and go explore the beaches to the south.

So it is definitely going to be one of my Sunday morning activities.

Unless you want to book a bike tour, I suggest just hopping onto one of the bike trails in the Túria Gardens and follow it towards the City of Arts and Sciences.

Take a right before you get to the Aquarium and you’ll just follow the only bike lane all the way to the beaches.

Just remember — stick to the bike lanes! Don’t bother going through the city center on a bike. That will be a stressful experience.

Events for Foodies

April is when a lot of the big food events start popping up!

You have things like:

That second one is especially great for travelers that want to try some of the most famous restaurants in Valencia. And it’s definitely on my to-do list since there are some spots I still need to check out … 😋

Just make sure you make a reservation through the Cuina Oberta website.

Fira del Llibre

Every year, Valencia hosts an enormous book fair in the Vivers Gardens. From the newest novels to second-hand goodies, you’ll have a lot to choose from.

So if you’re a big reader (or want to work on your Valencian reading skills) — this is your chance.

Note: Open from the 24th of April to May 4th.

Tours (and free ones!)

Since April tends to bring some very comfortable weather (knock on wood…) — it’s one of the best times to go on a tour of the city.

I have a full guide that breaks down my recommended tours, so make sure to check it out here:

But that said, there are also a couple new tours in April. Of course, these require you to have some language skills, but if you’re interested in learning more about Valencian history and its connection to the textile industry, sign up here.
